5 Speed Auto not holding fifth

All good now. Whatever the dealer did at the 50,000km service to re-set codes appears to have worked and fuel consumption is back towards normal. Now to find the cause of the engine oil leak....

5 Speed Auto not holding fifth

I tried driving on the tacho and noticed the following: 1. At 100km/hr in Drive, the tacho sits on 2000 revs; 2. At 100km/hr in "manual-auto", the tacho jumps to 2500 revs and the dash indicator shows "4"; 3. At 100km/hr in "manual-auto" fifth gear, the tacho shows 2000 revs...

5 Speed Auto not holding fifth

Spoke to my brother who jump started the truck last time we went away and he said the auto was "all over the place" when he test drove it then. Auto changed at irregular times, engine revved etc. etc. until he took it for a longer drive and it all settled down. Might try a drive again and see...

5 Speed Auto not holding fifth

Funny you should say that. I just had the battery replaced because it went belly-up while I was away. Supposedly a new NRMA "fit for purpose" battery!

5 Speed Auto not holding fifth

I have noticed a sudden increase in fuel consumption in my 2012 build (2013 sold) ST 5 speed auto after coming home from a five week holiday where the car sat for most of the time. Took it for a run today and noticed that when the transmission is in "Drive" at 100km/hr (and should be in 5th...

    4.0 petrol D40 Auto 4x4

2006 6 speed Manual. Would have preferred the auto. Got it in the next one (4 x 4 diesel).

    4.0 petrol D40 Auto 4x4

If Nissan still made the V6 4 x 2 like the first one I had I would be in one now. That V6 was a beautiful engine and in the 4 x 2 I routinely got 605km out of a tank full around town.

    turbo timer

....and you won't hear your alarm screaming that you have left your lights on until the engine cuts out.... by which time you are probably inside or on the bowl and don't hear it anyway!

    Nissan to buy into Mitsubishi

Reliability, haha, you see very few cars in europe with high ks that are french/Italian made, unless they have spend alot of time in the workshop. Cars like Fiat, they plummet in value after a few years because everyone knows whats on the way . FIAT used to mean "Fix It Again, Toni!"

    Lawn Mowers

Let's stay off-topic a bit longer! I have looked to replace my ever reliable 2-stroke Victa several times but none of the new 4 stroke stuff will come near it for cutting ability!

    Lawn Mowers

Now I understand! I have a 31 year old two stroke Victa that starts first rope pull EVERY time.... because I always turn the fuel off at the stop-cock below the tank and let the fuel run out.

    Diesel price

Canberra Diesel Just filled up with Shell at mainstream (no discounts) in expensive Canberra and paid $1.24 (UK Pound 0.5957) per litre. I won't ever complain about diesel prices here again!

A few weeks and $6,000 later....

Where I come from we not only get to pay $27 for the privilege but we get told how to separate the paint tins from the metal from the timber from the general rubbish BEFORE we dispose of it. Bro told me a story yesterday about taking a pretty good sofa to the recycling section at the tip only to...

A few weeks and $6,000 later....

Once upon a time, Virginia, you used to get something for your rates and taxes. One of those things was free waste disposal. Now local governments can only see $$$$$ when they see someone with a load to dump and so, anyone with a load to dump, only sees anyway they can to get out of paying the $$$$!

    D40 brake pads/linings wear

By about 72,000km you will need both rotors and pads. That's when you put the slotted rotors, no dust pad versions on. There are plenty of suppliers and don't forget, brakes you don't skimp on!

    Why can't Nissan offer this

Maybe the Yanks can learn a bit about the look of the things too! That is one damn ugly truck!

    Deep cycle battery care

Stealing your post Sorry to steal your post.... well, not really! What is the proper way to look after deep cycle batteries that are in storage for long periods of time (like the one in my camper which sees the light of day about twice a year recently). It is charged through a system off the...

    New Hilux

"3.5T caravans have 10 inch electric brakes and ESC and they can stop themselves if they need to". If that behemoth behind me can be relied upon to save the vehicle in front in one of my emergencies, how come I'm not allowed (or would even think about) riding in it?????

    New Hilux

3.5 tonne towing Tony makes a very good point but I want to know some more. Accidents almost NEVER happen when everything designed to avoid or manage one works properly. What is missing from this whole discussion on towing capacity is what happens when 3.5 tonne is behind 2.25 tonne at 100...
