d40 rattle? knock?

hi all.

just wondering if anyone else here notices a slight knock/rattle on there 2.5's. more noticeable on cold start up. yes i know its a deisel but i have driven an r51 pathfinder with same engine and it seems to be quiter?

the yd25 isn't the quietest diesel on the market and no 2 are the same
Remember the pathie got the extra balance shaft to make the engine quieter, some d40's were also fitted , some weren't......apparently

Shit. Good info. Didn't know that. It drives really well and doesn't smoke. Just thought I'd ask anyway.

Dont let it go to long without getting it checked.

The most common cause of rattles in these engines when cold is

A) Timing chain starting to fail
B) Injectors starting to fail.

If it is any amount louder when cold instead of hot, it is pointing towards a problem that you should be looking at getting fixed.
