As stated, went wheeling on the weekend with a few mates. There was a maroon colarado and a silver '09 D40 and neither experienced what mine has.

We went through quite a bit of mud. It was gernied off yesterday and detailed this morning only to have the detailer come and grab me and show me the problem. It appears as though the clear coat has started coming off the car wherever the mud had been on it and gone back to a matte finish. Its dotted all over the car and looks bloody terrible. Not neither of the other two cars had this problem. One is at work with me today and was not even washed yesterday. We washed a bit off it and the same problem is not evident.

Now I'm not happy to say the least but how have people gone about approaching dealers with paint problems in the past? I'm pretty sure this isnt the first time D40's have had paint problems. My previous D40 had been in exacty the same mud and did not turn out like this one...

Just adding, it hasnt hurt the paint on the wheels or roll bar, hasnt hurt any of the chrome or plastic surfaces either.

Aussie Frontier had an issue with the paint on his D40. It was quite a fight, if I recall, but he took it all the way and they're painting his car for him. Send him a PM if he doesn't see this thread.

Thanks Tony I'll do that. Took it to the panel beaters, they cleaned some of it, but it has definately damaged the clear coat on the car... so not happy at all... both the detailer and the panel beater said they had never seen anything like it.

Took it to Nissan, got the impression they didn't want to know about it. They sent me too the panel beaters across the road to get a second opinion. He said the clear coat is rooted and sent me back to Nissan. They said they would put an application in?? Whatever that means... It's went through the same mud the other two cars did and the same mud the previous one did and none of them turned out like this. Every panel on the car is rooted... 3 month old car...

Bit of a joke when you pay $65,000 grand for a vehicle and you have to persue them to fix the paint.

Make sure they submit it to warranty. And see what warranty says.

The trick is to prove to Nissan that the vehicle is not fit for purpose . In short the paint is cactus and needs to be repaired in some manner to bring it back to the standard it should be for a 3 month old vehicle.
take the truck to a paint specialist have have them inspect it. It could be something silly like needs a good buff. Did you happen to have paint protection applied on the truck?

Neither mud, cow shit or cow saliva has ever effected my paint work, the stories of bad paintwork by Nissan have been spoken about for about 10 years on all sorts of models but none of the 8 Nissan my family has had in that time have ever suffered bad paintwork and the Nav's copped a fair hiding from the cows lately.

A work mate of mine had problems with their family owned D40 RX. It initially had unpainted sections of the firewall and Nissan repainted the firewall sections under warranty. he got it back and we had a look over it and there were rusty marks basically all over it, particularly on the roof and c pillars. Returned to Nissan, and they repainted the entire car. Repaint looked better than the Original paint.

Regards

Greg

My first D40 looked like it had been washed with a handful of gravel on the left front guard, the dealer had a detailer buff it so i ended up with a flat finish and orange peel on the rest of the vehicle...... there was also a spot on the rear tub near the flare that had very little paint. I would not recommend a black Navara. I eventually got sick of giving them the vehicle for a day or two here and there just to be disappointed with the result, every time they would loan me an Xtrail with a sunroof that would destroy my neck. (too tall) The service department was full of cowboys that couldn't be trusted as i had witnessed when doing work for mutual clients. My current Navara is blue and while the paint is damaged here and there the paint is better that the black cheese the old one had sprayed on it.

Good luck getting it resolved and don't hesitate contacting Nissans head office to follow up.

Mmm, follow up Nissan head office.
My very kind decent service manager told me to use him first then follow up with Phone or and email to the top. Very different issue.
I had paint issues with Nissan in 2000.
They send a clown first, nod and smile stay patient.
You WILL get joy.
Will be interesting to know WHAT caused it.
Did you get paint protection?

When they roll out the phrase "it meets industry Standards" roll your eyes and openly laugh in their face. Ask them to actually produce such a doccument.
Its one of those urban myth deals
The Legal Eagle from Nissan even tried that on when I went to Fair Fair trading. I immediately asked to see such a doccument and asked why it wasnt made available in the evidence disclosure. The Tribunal member very quickly stepped in and instructed said Legal eagle to not mention such things as they didnt actually exist .
Dont let them bluff you

don't fight your local dealership ring Nissan Australia Customer Service .. 1800 035 035 ,, i had a problem with rust and my dealership laughed at me, rang nissan and got a call 3 days later from the dealer arranging to fix the rust with

Thanks for the replys guys. No the car didnt have paint protection.

I have now spoken too 3 panel beaters all telling me the car needs a respray and to take it back to nissan. I have started writing a diary of the events that have taken place. I called Nissan Customer Service and they informed me they couldnt do anything until the dealer has submitted the claim which they have not done yet. I will follow up with the dealer shortly. I am not going to let this rest. I have never claimed anything on warranty in my life but this is not right. Will keep you posted on my progress.

I suspect my 11 st has the same of not similar problem when I next wash it I'll have a good hard look in the sun to see.

I'll be following this intently to see your outcome mate

Yeah keep me update mate and I'll do the same, would be very interested to here if another one is doing the same thing.

Some good news. Spoke to Neil, the warranty clerk at Ian Boettcher Nissan who has submitted my application and shares my opinion that the car is a 4wd and should be able to get dirty and not turn out how it has with damage to the clear coat. He said they will more than likely buff it or give it a very hard cut. To which I agreed, obviously this would be admitting a problem and if it fixes the car I will be happy man. However from what I have seen, the panel beaters have said and done I dont believe it will, but once they admit to the problem they will have to take whatever action is needed to bring it up to scratch.

Very clever mate, I share your thoughts and applaud your clear thinking.
You are on your way.
