Well it was bound to happen. Driving on freeway at 110, dropped timing chain, engine destroyed. A d40 with 250000 km's on the clock it was bound to drop it's guts eventually.
Choice was sell to wreckers for a maximum offered of $900 or put in a new heart. New engine with dual timing chain kit going in this week.
Peel towing service did a great job picking us up, dropping at train station and then delivering the dead navara to mechanic the next day. You have to find a positive in every situation.:pissedoff:

Sorry to hear about that! Also interested in where you're getting a new engine that already has a dual row timing chain kit in it.

Quite disappointed in hearing the rest of the car is only worth $900. That money won't buy you a replacement transfer case, let alone the diff, or gearbox, or tub ... it might just get you a windscreen. Both side mirrors will almost cost that.

Here's a question though: not sure if you've had yours regularly serviced by Nissan, but have you approached Nissan? It's a known problem with the car. There have been several cases where Nissan replaced/repaired the engines under warranty, even after the warranty expired.

$900? I got $750 for a 84 hilux when i sold it to the wreckers lol
