After much persistence, it looks like the D40 YD25 fuel rail sensor is identified as a Denso part NO. 499000-6160

Available from many places, cheapest I have located thus far is out of the USA for ~$120 including shipping.

The Denso part appears to be the genuine article used by Nissan.

I reckon it will be doable. It's a screw-in sensor, and the fuel delivery lines are all screw-in with no special mention in the service manual.

Worst case, massive fuel leak :)

Actually, if I can't find some info on fitting a fuel rail sensor my inclination would be to remove the rail and take it to a local diesel specialist. A small charge would see it fitted and risks minimised.

Simple job....Remove engine cover....remove rail sensor plug...grab really big spanner and remove sensor...its bloddy tight tho...not sure on the tension for refitting.not much room to swing the spanner.but the rail is cast steel an very rigid

Thanks Camo, appreciated mate. Probably be able to get a deep socket in there to access the sensor.

It's not on the "desperate" list yet, as the chip I have fitted sends a "valid range" signal to the ECU anyway, but still - needs to be done eventually.

Would prefer to spend the money on a "glamour" job for the ute though :) Farkles are always better than repairs.
