Ezdown Tailgate Dampener

Hi Guys

Has anyone installed an Ezdown Tailgate Dampener on their D40. I understand the US Frontier (which you can buy a Ezdown for) has a different tailgate.

The Frontier has totally different hinges to ours. I believe someone tinkered with one a few years ago but our tailgates arent too strong on the sides where the EzDown connects to .

I was just about to buy one of these but thought I would ask the seller if they would suit a D40 and he replied saying no, I then asked what would I need to do to make it fit and he didn't know. Surely if the strut physically fits in I could modify the mounting for it, has anybody had any experience with this?
I have asked a number of gas strut suppliers about doing this but still have had no success.
Any ideas guys?
