not really mate because i wouldnt own a ford still if they cost to much to fix because most people know mechanics hate working on there own cars and income i work on transits and explores to so income is not a problem

I've owned both, so here's my 2 cents
Fords make great taxis for a reason. It's cos the drive lines are bullet proof and easily clock up 100's of 1000's Ks. However, for years Falcons looked ordinary/plain unless they had a body kit and the AU was just plain ugly except for the XR8 (it's the body kit tho). Were as , in my opinion(means nothing), Commondore's, other than the VN had better lines to them. In my experience the trim is where FALCONS fall apart (no pun). Had an XF that I quite liked and had for YEARS and put over 200,000K on, never missed a beat, but, it liked to scare the @*%# out of me by dropping the damn mirror onto the console every couple of months. The doors sagged early on & the drivers side front air vent inlet let water drip(and towards the end, end dribble) on my right foot when it rained so I had to wear a shopping bag on my foot if I wanted dry socks when I got to work. It started while it was still under warranty but I thought It was heater related and argued with the dealer about it but he all ways just said, as quite rightly, that the heater was fine:rant: Hired a low K BA XR6 a while back. Generally liked it, It was comfortable, well appointed and it drove/went great but little things soured the experience. Like it shedding its chrome trim from the trim on the rear doors every time you shut them and the indicator and wiper stalks feeling flexible/fragile. The OE tyres were like ICE in the wet as well.

On the other hand I had to sell a VX equipe to get the NAV and I was DAMN sorry to see it go. Never gave even a hint of trouble.

On the track tho, I'm 1 eyed. I LOVE Holdens cos most of the Ford drivers are TWATS!!

Any wonder the country and manufacturing has gone to shit.
So many disloyal citizens:sad:

I don't follow you, FORD and HOLDEN are both locally made American owned. Or are you referring to our NISSAN's being Japanese?

I say there isn't nothing more AUSSIE that the RED and BLUE rivalry

Maybe yank owned, but mostly made and assembled here by australians.

And yes i hear you all saying, but your nav is'nt aussie, but unfortunately ford or holden dont sell a locally produced 4x4 dualcab.

And although a tru blu Holden man, i am loyal to both (with exception to the nav) holden and ford locally made cars and the one and only V8 Supercars....Go Holden.

I have to admit part of why the thread tickled me so much is my fondness for Holdens as well. After our Magna, we needed a decent station wagon and while the Ford offered a towing capacity of 2.3 tonnes and an extra 3mm across the back (not much, but every little bit counts), the Ford felt "light" - the doors felt like they were made of tinfoil, the car felt like it was a shopping trolley on the road.

The Holden felt solid, drove like it was on rails and as I've said before, it was so damn quiet and smooth ... it was no real contest. We replaced it in a move towards the Fifth Wheeler we're looking at, as well as providing us with a 4WD vehicle that has comfort and that feeling of security that the Holden had.

You only have to look at the advancements in the Holden driveline. Ford are using the same 6 cylinder 4L engine since the early 90's (and yes its a bulletproof engine). Holden have built the all new alloytech in 2005ish? and have now gone even further with SIDI and all that kind of gear. Driving the 2 side by side the Ford feels dated to me. The new Holden 6L Auto v8 has a system now where it shuts down 4 cylinders when the power is not needed so fuel economy is fantastic! Not sure if Ford have made any of those sort of advancements but if they have Im yet to hear about it. I know which manufacturer I'd spend my hard earned at and I plan to soon!

Holden advanced? about 10degrees isn't it.... Seriously my first car a '77 180B was more advanced than Holden built 20 years later and Ford are still using a cart axle rear aren't they.

What a choice
Fix Or Replace Daily vs Highly Over-medicated Lunatics Designing Engineering Nightmares

i am a ford lover (d40 is work and family thing ) and the biggest thing to bring to the table is that i am a ford and holden specialist (machanic by trade ) And once you work on both your soon come to the fact holdens and much more anonoying and shit to work on and they no longer doing a wagon anymore because the lack of sales in bf wagons and they have the mondeo wagon that is selling quiet well and plus the have the territory that is a wagon on steroids that is were the maket is at the moment with familys wanting a wagon the is higher and more safe (because they think there higher there safer )

When we bought the XR6, the Territory was just about to hit the market. I thought it was interesting that even our local dealer admitted that the whole reason the Territory was designed was that all the market research pointed to a missed customer base who by definition NEEDED a station wagon, but what they WANTED was a 4WD, so where a Falcon (Or commodore) wagon was really the car most suited to them they were going off and buying Klugers and Prados and Pathfinders and so on.

I thought replacing the Lion on the front with a Chevy badge cured all of Holden's problems.

Dosent Holden stand for;

Heap
Of
Loud
Delapidated
Engine
Noise

and i've heard that Fords are the most efficient way of turning petrol into noise without the side-effect of horsepower. well until the last XR6 Turbo came out, that thing is AWESOME.

they are both rubbish, i worked on cars installing alarms, central locking, stereos, cruise controls etc, and they are made to a budget, like everything i guess but theirs is a smaller budget. My 2c worth.

Phar Lap was a Kiwi. We had to steal someone else's horse and claim it as our own what hope have we got making our own cars. Mind you for any kiwi who is upset that aussies keep claiming Phar Lap is from here you can have Russell Crowe back we don't want him.

From imported parts.

Like IKEA!!! Imported parts assembled by aussies. BUY AUSTRALIAN!!!

Fine mate,
dont support australian jobs, or anything,
and the parts, skills, engineers etc, their not all imported.

Errr... Aside the NAV, I own a late model holden atm. I just sold a holden. I've also owned a few fords
.
Dude get a grip. In case you forgot, this is the jokes thread.

I have owned about 15 Holdens in my time and all were good reliable cars.
The LC torana souped up to the max would blow off 351 fords at top speed around 130/140 MPH and still pulling strong.
As we started having kids we STUPIDLY decided to get a F@#$%# Ford Fairlane ZL for its bigger interior. What a mistake that turned out to be.Everything went wrong with that piece of crap.I started dreaming of the day when i could BURN it just for pleasure.
WEnt back to Holdens for the missus, now drives a current sv6,and its great.
I am though a NISSAN fan since SKAIFY flogged them at Bathurst.
My first Navara d21 v6 clocked up 375000 ks with NO breakdowns at all,and no servicing after 160000ks,except for an oil change once a year.Thats what great cars do.
now im in my D22 str and love it...
GO NISSAN
