Hey Guys,
Got my nav bout 12 months ago and have had some breakage issues. Smoked a transfer case in the first 2 weeks, smashed a chain and obliterated the internals. 2500 bucks later got a new 1. Decided that more lift and bigger tyres mite help. just finished putting a 3 inch lift in and fitted a set of 285 75 mud terrains and they work a treat but still have issues with the front wheels lifting on big hills. took it out last weekend and smashed a cv joint shockloading the front wheels. Done sum research and tossing up wether to chuck a loka in the front. just chasing sum oppinions on the 4wd systems auto loka as opposed to forking out for a V6 diff and going an ARB air locker.

Sounds like you might be better suited to a Patrol good buddy.

3in lift and bigger tyres will help you consume driveline components faster.

Putting a LOKKA in an IFS lets you take lines slower so you can preserve driveline components - by your description it will also be a good mod to help you consume CV joints faster than ever before so find a good supplier and get as good as Joshy at changing them.

R200a swap is not worth the hassle to fit an airlocker for most people. Lokka can be disengaged by unlocking the hubs while you're on road, and just tolerate the clicking and understeer while you're between tracks on wheeling runs. Half the price half the hassle who can argue with that?

By the time you f around with all that and you're still eating CVs a dual cab chopped patrol will look pretty shweet.

$2500 for a transfer case was it gold plated?

i put a front richmond lockright in my landcruiser and got to test it out for the first time this weekend when camping.

it was AMAZING!

there was no clicking at all however which i wondered about, the only thing i noticed was that the steering would get hard and then ease off in uneven ruts or uneven corners as it locks and unlocks.

doing downhill/descending work, it was brilliant as it didnt allow the car to slip on the gravel and it kept the speed constant even when i was going through big deep ruts or really uneven slopes.

going uphill in really rough stuff was brilliant too, no slippage or wheel spin and it just seemed to crawl up anything!

best $400 i ever spent, and as i have done the 2wd LO mod it means i can still do tight turns slowly, but still the locker didnt make turning that much worse.

oh yeah, unlike an air locker i just bolted the autu locker right in. pull out the diff, mark where everything lined up, and replaced the gears with the locker unit, and bolted back in. a air locker requires all the tolerances to be reset, so a diff specialist is highly recommended to fit it

We have an imposter in the ranks.lol

Na he's cool even though he drives a Yota.

I dont dislike all Yota drivers, just the inconsiderate ones who hold up traffic.

Dave.

thanks for the advice, should be ok with a locker as usually i drive slow its only when the wheels lift i have issues. The plan is to use reduction gears in the transfer case as well to reduce the need to kane the crap outa it.
Did some more research and decided to go with the auto lokka. will keep everyone informed if it solves the issue.

Hi Mudslinger. Search the forum, cos someone here(cant remember who) done a very good blow by blow write up on the install of the 4wd systems LOKKA. It's a good read. and last I read he was wrapped with it.

I would go the air locker as you can disengage it.

x2. At least with an airlocker you decide when its locked or not and you know its in.

But thats just me, i like to be in control of my 4b.

but im probably not the best person to follow:devil:

Hiya, I did the write up not too long ago.
For $500 I'm in love with it! Takes a little longer to install than what is quoted.
I'm also considering an air locker in the rear as well down the track. But for now
a front auto lokka has been great!
