Hi guys, sometimes when I go to put off in 1st gear my d40 will hesitate then jerk into gear. Not all the time just the odd time. I have checked oil in box and its clean and full. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How did you check the transmission is full? The procedure to check the level of ATF is fairly complex.
The reason I ask is that low fluid normally causes a slow take up of drive.

That's the sort of thing I'd be looking for a decent auto transmission specialist for. Not some one-man operation either. I took mine (after the disaster we had with the one-man operation) to Automatic Transmission Services in East Maitland.

A guy I always use checked it for me. He is by no means a atf guy. He did show me oil on his fingers which I rubbed on mine and it was clear and smooth. What other signs would I see if the oil is low.

The RE7 box in the STX550 had a special way of checking the oil - you operated the car until the transmission fluid reached 40 degrees Celcius, then opened the filling hole underneath. At that temperature, the oil should begin to drip out slowly and if it doesn't, it needs topping up.

For some reason (and really, I can't think of a logical one) Nissan did away with the dip stick for measuring oil in the gearbox in favour of a method that defies my sensibilities.

Maybe I'm just weird.
