Just spent a month over in the USA, whilst in New York City I was lucky enough to get to catch the NY International Auto Show. And what a show it was, I'll give something to the yanks, they know how to put on a show! It was absolutely massive, I was there for 5 hours walking around, didn't visit the same stall twice. There was 5 massive convention halls filled with every manufacturer imaginable, and each one had at least 5-10 vehicles on display, and most had at least a few concept cars on display also.

There was a particular focus on fuel efficiency, and electric/alternative fuel vehicles which is good to see, considering every second car on the road over there is a V8 truck or SUV. Interestingly, just about every truck/SUV manufacturer offers their wares in a at least one petrol/electric hybrid model (generally a petrol V8 coupled with an electric motor). Even all the airport shuttle buses are V8 or V10 petrol based on E-series ford or GMC vans/trucks. It's pretty cool to be in a 11 seater bus that can roast a typical sedan off the traffic lights, and do 85 miles an hour on the freeway to JFK Airport (I was shitting myself!!!)

Below is a selection of photos I took at the show, because of the nature of this forum I have only put up the ones relating to trucks/SUV's however I have a couple of hundred photos all up.

Vehicles:

Range Rover Evoque - mid-sized SUV/cross over, fits in between probably the Freelander and LR defender in size, but much more sporty and stylish, probably more a competitor for Audi Q5 and BMW X3 markets

Infinity Q56, which is basically a flash version of what the new Patrol will look like.

Ford F-150 SVT Raptor

GMC yukon SUV - petrol/electric V8 hybrid

Dodge Ram 1500 "outdoorsman" - pretty cool features, ugly vehicle though in my opinion. Check out the Ram website for details.

Dodge Ram 2500 - the big daddy

Nissan Frontier LWB - any of you D40 boys jealous?? interestingly, in Florida I saw a LWB D22 and it had a factory supercharged V6 and auto box

Mercedes G series - available with supercharged V8 (same as the AMG sedans) does 0-100 in something ridiculous like 6 seconds....full genuine off road capabilities as well....

Some more of the F150 SVT Raptor...

Toyota Tundra - full sized pickup with 5.7L petrol V8, same as 200 series

Toyota Sequoia - full sized SUV, which made the 200 series landcruiser in front of it look like a baby. Was at least 500-600mm longer than the cruiser and also taller and wider. Same V8 as cruiser (no 4.5L diesel V8 option in ANY north american toyota truck/SUV that I could find)

Cadillac Escalade - speaks for itself. Very 'Gangsta'

Another GMC Sierra Denali HD - in black though - sweet truck but I do prefer the white one

GMC Sierra HD off-road concept. this thing had so much stuff I can't even remember it all, but had electric retracting side steps, racing suspension, heaps of gadgets, on-board computer/entertainment system with 80gb hard drive, heaps of other shit - sweet truck but only a concept at this stage.

The prices of vehicles over there is so cheap. You could buy a fully kitted out GMC Sierra 4WD V8 for less than a new D40 STX. Sadly, we will probably never see any of them on our roads, except for the odd converted import.
