Not a normal day at work.

So I was asked to recover some lost/deleted files on a PC.

Long story short, found soft porn on the bosses PC. Tell or not??

Well I'm not telling. I reckon that's the right thing to do.

Thing that pisses me off is that I've been put in this position.

:rambo: :rambo:

I think you're right not saying anything I certainly wouldn't.
If you did say something it'll just cause more grief than what it's worth.

Enjoy the pay rise :)
At least it wasn't some freaky stuff which would make you question all his trips to the 'farm'.

How is this a dilema? What are you - a religious nut? The boss can have whatever the **** he likes on his computer as far as im concerned if he's paying your wages. Doesnt mean you cant hang shit on him for it and have a laugh at his expense tho!

A couple of points...

Does the company has a policy on NSFW content?
Is you 'boss' a manager or an owner/director?
Is it a small business or a large company?

Your best choice of action will vary depending upon the answers to those questions.

How's he gunna know you saw it? If youre the only one that knows, no problems.

If the stuff is legal for an adult to have then it's a case of leaving it alone, walking away and mentioning to his secretary that next time she hears some repetitive friction-like noises she should call the boys from the workshop into his office.

If it's illegal it's tougher. By putting the cops onto the boss you're ending your contract/employment/arrangement with them, but you're taking a potential danger out of society. That's something you, your conscience and your wallet have to balance.

Is it him n his Missus?? Lol

In all seriousness, if its abit of soft porn leave it be. If its obviously child related... then you only have one choice.

Then you better go n wash your hands..... and repeat.

I dont' understand what position you've been put in - if its' soft porn it's legal - and who's to say it's his (I'm assuming it's a he) - if you are recovering something from a harddrive it could have come from years ago when it was someone else's PC. Move on - forget about it and mind your own business - just my thoughts.

I'd look which file was the most recently opened file (presumably his favourite) and open it in photo editor and put a text box across the image and write "don't worry, your secrets safe with me"

Then turn the computer off and forget all about it and just have a chuckle imagining him c'mon across your little message (if you'll pardon the pun).

Except I seem to believe he maybe a public servant or a large company employee, in which case his boss is only a worker with a higher title and no rights to do what he likes. And even if he owns the company he now leaves himself open to a work cover stress claim, ie coming across objectionable material. :yeahright:

I was in a situation where I found some., what I thought to be not so legal to have pictures on a customers computer that he left with me to fix. I notified the police and they sent 2 officers to have a look at it. Unfortunately or fortunately how ever you look at it they said even though the subjects of the photos where not of an appropriate age they where not depicted in explicit acts so they would not be able to get a decent conviction. They said just to give the customer back the computer and tell him he is a sico.

Pretty bloody close d22dave. I've done some thinking. I'm going to ignore it and not say anything.

It's not as cut and dry as I've put it on the initial post, but I don't think it's worth stirring the waters for.

Got your own career to think of, I know nothing
