Hi all,

Had the bonnet up yesterday marveling at the work of art that is the Nissan 2.5 CR DI engine, when I noticed oil leaking past the clamp that comes down from the aftercooler on the cool side, being an air pipe the only way for oil to enter this system would be through the turbo right ? Does this mean my turbo is shagged? Engine is stock apart from EGR mod, thanks for your help.

oil can also come from crankcase breather, which is why many people fit catch cans.

its blowby gasses from the engine
its quite normal(but not good for i/cooler) and can be fixed by fitting a catch can
theres nothing wrong with your turbo

There will most certainly be something wrong with your turbo (requiring an expensive rebuild) if you ask a turbo specialist - at least that's what they tried to tell me. But fear not, sparra & tweak'e are on the money - fit a quality catch can and your problem will be sorted.

When you fit the catch can, try fitting it forward of the radiator. Check out the catch can threads on here - some have pics - it's a good idea to install baffles inside, and extend the input tube and add some steel wool to the bottom. This will assist the oil in changing state from gas (vapour) to liquid.

You could also remove the aftercooler (we generally refer to it as an intercooler, despite 'aftercooler' being the correct name) and clean it out with a solvent like unleaded petrol.
