hey everyone im new here so take it easy haha

well i was just wondering if i'd be able to grab advice off use

i have a nissan navara D21 1989 p/up single cab, i bought it for $250 from ballina and its my project i've removed absolutely everything from the car and the chassi including the body its got some fair rust in it and some big holes i need a new tub, the tub was over 7ft long its absolutely rusted, it came with a Z20 motor but i was hoping if anyone new of a cheap kind of v6 that could fit even if a straight 6 could fit, it needs a new front body part where the headlights and all that bolts to forgot the name :s
i would like to do a complete restoration on it but as cheap as possible any info at all would be help full

G'day and welcome. There are a few blocks on here with D21's that could be able to help. Good luck with the project

Single cab tubs are very rare, which is a shame coz they're pretty cool. Have you looked at infamousnissan.com?

Looks like a 4x2 in your avatar? VG30 from a D21 4x2 will bolt in, you'll need the engine, gearbox, wiring harness and computer. Commodore engines go into the 4x2 pretty easily as well but I've never done it.

Radiator support? Never seen one available on its own but there are plenty of shells around to scavenge.

Good luck with it all. These are cheap cars to play with so you've made a good choice.

Okay awesome no but ill look up that site now an yes radiator support. Thanks heaps another thing the dash its brown an square any way i could modify it like fibre glass or anything?

You can do whatever you want with fibreglass. Factory bolt-in options are the later D21/WD21 dash (92-onwards), and the R50 pathfinder, and the Series 1 D22 dash. Series 2 and 3 D22 dashes probably even bolt in.

That'd be great if i could but i don't have that kind off money, i have a V6 out of a VR Commodore I can get for 100 just had a rebuild i've been told they can bolt straight in or a RB30 engine with out a gearbox

Welcome mate. Sounds like a fun project.
I recon a VG30DETT out of a 300ZX would go awesome in there.
If not then the commodore motor might be the way to go.

Have you thought about using a tub of a D22 or a 720? Or a flat tray with wooden floor would be neat.

Keep us updated on the progress.

To install a V6 Bommodore engine properly would cost $4k easily. I would expect any other engine that wasn't factory fitted would cost alot more.

I think i'd search around an see what i can get, i was thinking if i got a car with the engine it'd be cheaper then just getting the engine by itself what use reckon? Its hard to get a nissan navara around where i live, i got offered a dual cab d21 lil rust no engine $500 but don't have the money :/

I have concidered deisel but im gonna stick with unleaded, well i wanted to make it into a daily driver but also a lil perfomance i want it custom but not over board i want it low but not like scraping low im no much of a mechanic or know much about cars thats why im doing this project learning and practicing on the way

Well I would say go with the VG30E. It came out in the D21 Navaras and should be a straight bolt in. If you want to go more peformance in the future there is also a Turbo version of the VG30E and a few different Cam options to choose from.

Start with an empty engine bay,
Remove interior
Remove and treat all rust,
Prime and paint,
Install engine,
Reinstall interior.

Just the order I would do things.
If you are planning on keeping this ute for a while make sure it has a decent base, being running gear, chassis and body. Then clean it all up and get it ready for a new engine.
