G'day i am new to this forum, i have a 2006 d22 zd30 navara owned it since new it's only got 88,000kms on it. The rear lsd is propper shagged...I jacked the back wheels up off the ground spin one wheel either forwards or backwards and the other wheel doesn't move(understand what i mean by shagged lsd no more) I change the diff oil every 15,000kms to 20,000kms i've never even had a slightly milky diff even after loads of creek and river crossings. Is this a common problem with these diffs loosing the lsd and becoming more of an open diff...? I occassionally tow a two horse float, it is braked but would be getting very close to my legal limit.

not common on here anyways.....prolly the clutch pak is gone....maybe just one of those things
 
was it in gear when u moved the wheel? to stop the power goin up the drive shaft instead
 
The only thing is from what i gather you can only buy genuine parts and not in a kits unless you buy a whole new diff...!(sell your kidney kinda sh*t) i was hoping to strip it down hopefully there isn't too much damage and overhaul the diff and lock it up tight
 
I suspect that the clutch pack will be fine. If you have the ability then remove the entire rear axel / diff and dump it on the bench of your local specialist. They should be able to re torque it for bugger all. Failing that a second hand unit would be more cost effective than rebuilding.
What oil are you running in the rear diff?
There is always a gravel road test too.
 
the mechanic couldn't remember what he used last time....said it would've been gear oil SAE140 or Gear oil SAE90 but sai i'd be fine to run gear oil lsd SAE90 with the friction modifier which was what i put in last
 
Ive not changed mine yet but it must be LSD type if you have an "LSD" centre.

friction controler with the oil is that like a slick 50/molyslip kindve thing to reduce friction? dont thinjk your sposed to put that kindve stuff in lsd?
 
Gravel - Grass - Mud both rear wheels will still spin but it was very poor thats why i jacked it up and in doing so found what i did....if anyone has time it would be interesting to see what the wheels are doing your trucks when both wheel are jacked up off the ground...

yep....If it aint actually made for LSD's, it wont be good for the clutch pack.
