STX 550 roaring noise/under bonnet temps

Thanks for that info Scotty, mine has done the same since new and only does it briefly just after I first start driving with a cold engine. From the sound I assumed it was the fan because I used to get a similar sound effect with trucks I owned that were fitted with clutch type fans.
