Hi Guys,

Im new to the forum, been stalking for a while :)

My names chris and im from Sydney....

I have a 07 STX TD Manual and am running into a few issues and wanted to pick your knowledgable brains....

The 6 Speed box feels loose and indirect, is this normal or could it be a worn bushing which is causing it?

The second issue im having is that the brakes are very weak, basically have to mash the pedal into the carpet on a steep downhill stop and I plan on towing a boat so I need to rectify this issue... Should I replace discs and pads?

BTW im glad I found this forum, I will post pics of the Nav soon, its currently undergoing a 3" lift and getting some 33" MT MTZ's fitted as well as MTRUX light bar with 3 Hellas so should look pretty tough....

welcome to the forum...

^^^seems to be normal...sloppy shift.
Used to drive my bosses new '07 D40 and the same thing and there's been a few here complain about the same thing.

Best get your brakes checked out.

Difficult to say on the shift mate. I do know ther'e not good and feel a bit rubbery from new. I do worry what mine is going to be like in another 100,000Ks.

On brakes, perhaps the rear drums need adjusting up. Should bring the pedal up a little under braking. The D40's do seem to have a longish pedal on them.
Maybe find a lonely piece of road and have a good go on the brakes see if they lock up or the ABS activates. Doing a practice emergency stop every now and again is good practice and if the brakes are defective you soon find out.
Best to have a brake specialist take a look.

yeah I did that last night, found a empty piece of road and stomped on the brakes from around 60kays and the performance was very poor.

Gonna take it down to the local mechanic tomorrow for a look.

i spoke to my mechanic on friday, as this is a fairly common problem he told me the rotors wear like a half moon or this ) .so the pad is not making full contact it will be worse if you change the pads his advice (change the rotors and pads)

Go for DBA slotted rotors, bendix pads and braided lines. Also check the brake proportioning valve at the back. If someone does a cheap lift they often neglect to adjust this and you will be getting very little back brake.

It will only get worse with bigger and heavier tyres - especially if using steel wheels

Mate ive been trying to but no luck.

I am getting one made custom to replicate the MTRUX bar, should also come out a lot cheaper. Already have the hellas waiting to go.

Only thing is I need to get the BL in beofre they measure it all up for the mounting points.

Ill definately post some pics when shes on.

If you think the brakes are bad now, just wait till you try and pull it up doing downhill with the 33 MTZ's on it. Better get them fixed beforehand I think.
