Hi all. Am looking to fit anew 27 meg ssb radio in the ute (D40 Spain built ) This unit is relatively high current draw. Was planning to run it direct from the battery. Is there a way to switch this supply on and off with the ignition? A relay perhaps mounted near the battery? I dont want to subject the cars wiring under the dash to a high load as the wiring is well shall we say at best ordinary. Was thinking of switching the relay via the accesory feed to the power socket (cigarette socket) wondering if that is feasible. Any other thoughts or ideas.

Yes. A relay bringing power direct from the battery triggered by the feed to the cigar/power socket is the way to go. It's easy to to access to.
