So I've been to a few places and so far they all seem to know that I need to spend aload of cash on my truck. Me? I know it drives fine.

I am looking to get a minor leak sorted, some advice on my clutch, and a bit of prep work for a Cape trip. Nothing is causing worry right now. She's a 1998 D32 and pretty standard.

Anyone know of a decent bunch of lads who will give me some old school advice before reaching into my pocket and relieving my of any cash hat might be left in my wallet? I am quite willing to travel upto an hour or so for good service.

Craig09 you care to put your 2c in?

Cheers,

Richie

depends on what you want to do with it, may drive fine on the road, but may not be setup to do anything more than a dirt road, you haven't told us anything about what your intended uses are.. many ways to get to the cape mate.

My bad. The old girl drives fine on bitumen. Better than me on dirt and bog holes. This is NQ and we've use our trucks like they're meant to be. Fun and dirty. I'm too old for stupid.

I'll be looking to do OTT missing out the most severe options if I don't think it'll help.

I dont mean to offend but I am really looking for some usefull advise regarding decent mechanics in Townsville region not the usual "we need more info". Maybe I should have posted his in the D22 section?

This forum is a wealth of info. Thanks so far.

i'm looking for a decent mechanic in Townsville myself but haven't heard of anyone being held in high regards yet. a diesel specialist would be ideal but i haven't come across that either. i did ask the same question a while back and there wasn't much of a response then.

sorry to be of no help mate but i will be following this thread with interest.

Mate the mines are full of useless tradies aswell, but yeah to answer the question, I'm still yet to find a trustworthy mechanic in Townsville that doesn't charge Townsville tax. They all seem to try and rip you off blind up here.

i took my last ute in for a roadworthy at a "reputable" mechanic here in townsville and he wrote out a list as long as my arm for what needed to be fix, i told the bloke i would do the work myself and bring it back. His jaw dropped and then told me not to bother bringing it back because he would not pass it, still charged me for the experience as well. Asshole i thought, jumped in the ute to drive off and found his mail and food wrappers on the passenger seat, must have thought he'd use my ute to run around for the day and do his other jobs!

took it to another bloke, he gave the ute a once over, gave me a list of about 5 things to fix (windscreen wipers, one ball joint, new front pads and some other small stuff) and said he was happy for me to fix it and gave me the roadworthy when i came back.

after that i haven't been back to a mechanic for my ute. the wifes car is still under cap price servicing atm so i'm dreading when that runs out!

Are we allowed to name and shame? If not can you pm me who the dodgy roady guy was?

it was a bloke on Boundary Street, South Townsville. Pit Straight Mechanics, but also advertised as
'the road worthy center". pretty sure they have moved to Ingham Rd, northern end now.

Iv'e used the guys at Boundary Street Auto over in Railway Estate for the last 5 years now for both mine and the missus commodore - Thomas and his mechanics are excellent. Used to know Tom years ago when he was part of the Insanity Nitro Car Team. The lads know their stuff and Tom loves a yarn on all things mechanical. Wifey likes them cause she recons they take the time to explain things to her, Me cause I like things done properly and don't have time for all the half assed harry's out there. Highly recommend.
