nah tyhe seals on them are shit man, like properly shit. there was definatly mud in there aswell. thanks nissan for a good around 4wd.

issue has been fixed was dodgey connection to the servo, all rusted. also figured out if your really stuck in the bush and cant get it into 4wd you can do it Manuely

ok now for future reference if you have issues with your transfer case there is a self diagnostic, to find the problemm area. and i will post the procedure for Manuel transmission.

Diagnostic Procedure (M/T models)
1. Warm up engine.
2. Turn ignition switch “ON” and “OFF” at least twice, and then turn ignition switch “OFF”.
3. Move M/T shift lever to neutral position.
4. Turn 4WD shift switch to “2WD” position.
5. Turn ignition switch “ON”. (Do not start engine.)
6. 4WD warning lamp ON.
If 4WD warning lamp does not turn ON, refer to TF-96, "4WD Warning Lamp Does Not Turn ON" .
7. Move M/T shift lever to any position other than neutral.
8. Turn 4WD shift switch to “2WD”, “4H” and “2WD” in order.
9. Move M/T shift lever to neutral position.
10. Turn 4WD shift switch to “4H”, “2WD” and “4H” in order.
11. Move M/T shift lever to any position other than neutral.
12. Turn 4WD shift switch to “2WD” position.
13. Move M/T shift lever to neutral position.
14. Read the flickering of 4WD warning lamp.
Refer to TF-51, "Judgement Self-diagnosis" .

now what the sign means.

1
Vehicle speed signal
(from front revolution
sensor)
Malfunction is detected in front revolution sensor.
Improper signal is input while driving.
TF-84, "Vehicle Speed
Sensor (Front Revolution
Sensor)"
2
Output shaft revolution
signal (from TCM)
Malfunction is detected in output shaft revolution signal
that is output from TCM through CAN communication.
Improper signal is input while driving.
TF-56, "Output Shaft
Revolution Signal
(TCM)"
3
Vehicle speed signal
[from ABS actuator and
electric unit (control
unit)]
Malfunction is detected in vehicle speed signal that is
output from ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit)
through CAN communication.
Improper signal is input while driving.
TF-56, "Vehicle Speed
Sensor (ABS)"
4 CAN communication Malfunction has been detected from CAN communication.
TF-87, "CAN Communication
Line"
5 AD converter
AD converter system of transfer control unit is malfunctioning.
TF-55, "Transfer Control
Unit"
6 4LO switch
Improper signal from 4LO switch is input due to open or
short circuit.
TF-57, "4LO Switch"
7
Engine speed signal
(from ECM)
Malfunction is detected in engine speed signal that is output
from ECM through CAN communication.
Improper signal is input while driving.
TF-83, "Engine Speed
Signal (ECM)"
8 Power supply
Power supply voltage for transfer control unit is abnormally
low while driving.
TF-53, "Power Supply
Circuit For Transfer
Control Unit"
9 4WD shift switch
More than two switch inputs are simultaneously detected
due to short circuit of 4WD shift switch.
TF-60, "4WD Shift
Switch"
10 Wait detection switch
Improper signal from wait detection switch is input due to
open or short circuit.
TF-64, "Wait Detection
Switch"
11 Actuator motor
Motor does not operate properly due to open or short circuit
in actuator motor.
Malfunction is detected in the actuator motor. (When
4WD shift switch is operated and actuator motor is not
operated.)
Malfunction is detected in transfer shift high relay and
transfer shift low relay.
TF-68, "Actuator Motor"
12
Actuator position
switch
Improper signal from actuator position switch is input due
to open or short circuit.
Malfunction is detected in the actuator position switch.
TF-77, "Actuator Position
Switch"

13 Transfer control device
Malfunction is detected in transfer shut off relay 1 and
transfer shut off relay 2.
Malfunction occurs in transfer control device drive circuit.
TF-53, "Power Supply
Circuit For Transfer
Control Unit", TF-80,
"Transfer Control
Device"
14 PNP switch signal
When A/T PNP switch signal is malfunction or communication
error between the vehicles.
TF-67, "PNP Switch
Signal (TCM)"
15
Vehicle speed signal
(from combination
meter)
Malfunction is detected in vehicle speed signal that is
output from combination meter through CAN communication.
Improper signal is input while driving.
TF-84, "Vehicle Speed
Sensor (Combination
Meter

this is all straight from the service manual.

first thing i would do is do the self diagnostic

secondly testing your plugs note that you cannot tell if they are working fine or not just by inspection you will heed to test as the parts are internal and cant be easily removed.

ok the 2 plugs on the front of the transer case (black and gray) will read contact once fully depressed, the one on the back next to the transfer control device (gray) will read contact once there is any movement of the pin.
and third pull the the hi and low relay out and test it aswell as the shut off relays and fuses( under the bonnet) , also check correct operation of the switch in cab as it some times fails.

ok now if your really stuck in the bush/beach and you are able to get under the car and it will not go into 4wd, if you remove the transfer control device (2 bolts) you can turn the shaft manually to engage 4wd with someone standing on the break and clutch while not in gear you should be able to hear it click.

turning clockwise about 1/4 turn you should feel 4h if you keep going to about 270 degrees you should feel a click and you will be in 4low, as this is part of the transfer seal you will need to stick something over the hole or open up the control unit 4 screws remove the back cog first connected to the motor and then just the motor/control device can do whatever it wants but it will not be able to pull itself out. this will throw a 4wd code but it will get you out of a sticky situation and you should also remember that the unit is roughly 1700 from nissan to replace so yeh. i had a bit of a stuff around trying to get it all back into alignment as i had the cover off (4 screws) which holds all the cogs in and it threw the cog out so yeh make sure its all tight before you try to engage it.

Good to know you can manually put it in 4WD cause mines always faulting out when I go through water or mud.

So is it the black plastic box on the rear on the transfer case I need to take and open up
