Unifilter Clean - Tips & Tricks

G'Day all

I am interested to here peoples different methods for cleaning and re-oiling a Unifilter.

Its very messy. I wash mine in turps (Seem to use a lot)
I have re-oiled using the ice cream container method and a freezer bag method.
Both methods seem to work but id be keen to learn a new way, perhaps eaiser way.

since I know SFA about what you are talking about(new Nav under warranty), I'll ask a question first.

Is this the sort of job where you are washing excess crud out of a filter and it will not matter if the first few lots of turps are a dirty?

If so, after each job, store your used turps in containers. any solid gunk and heavier liquids will settle out.

Next time you need bulk turps, you carefully pour the cleaner stuff off the top and use it for the first few washes, then use new turps for the final (2nd last wash).

I've been using this method for decades with turps, metho, petrol, kero, etc. Saved a fair bit of $$$ over the time.
