Why do they have that stupid wrap around bracket to mount the fuel filter.....I just had to remove the whole assembly to replace the filter because I couldn't get a filter wrench on the damm thing.

Thinking I will cut the sides off it while I have it off to make things easier for next time.

Anyone done this as well?

I used one of these style, they fit in there fine, think I got it from supercheapskate auto

And to say my filter had been there for more than a while would be the understatement of the century......

Cheers think I will just cut the bracket, I cant see any reason to have it go around the filter

I don't think I have ever seen a filter with that much crap in it.....looks like the dreaded black fungus. I would be looking at cleaning out my tank and replacing the filter again, finishing up with dosing the fuel with Fuel Doctors product or something similar.

I jsut removed the two bolts on the top of the filter case and pulled the filter out that way. Easy.

Yeah I did the same but ended up having to disconnect the two fuel lines and mounting the filter mount in a vice, it was so tight I couldn't undo it just holding onto it.....would be so much easier mounted like the old Hilux's used to be with plenty of room around them.
