Gday, Whilst driving to the suspension specialist my wife who was following behind noticed a fair bit of black smoke coming for the exhaust, while I was taking off at the lights up until the car was crusing. I'm fairly concerend as I just ran out of warrenty and at last service 80 000km I had the injectors cleaned around 2500km ago. I will be calling Nissan today and see what they can do. But I would like your thoughts on what could be going on? sorry forgot to mention i have a D40 diesel 2.5

Cheers

yea most likley dirty injecters...couple of deisel fitters have told me that you drive say around 110km/hr then drop it to 4th gear (if you have a manual) should rev up to around 4000rpm then let the gear drive u down to about 60km/hr then continue driving as per normal...yes its not good for the transmission but doing it once should be ok to see if that flushes the injectors...

Thanks Nismo4x4. yes I have a manual. Did It work for you? not sure if I want to try this.

But if others out there who have and had success by all means let us know.

Hi Chucka,

Under load it is not necessarily unusual for D40's to pump out what can seem like quite a lot of soot (or black smoke) - particularly the manual transmission models which don't have a partilate filter in the exhaust system. Things which can influence the amount of soot are ambient air temperature and air pressure (air density - whether you are under the influence of a high or lowe pressure system), the exact accelerator pedal position and how hard you are accelerating, the quality of the diesel fuel and how long it has been in the tank at the fuel station....among a huge range of factors.

Honestly, I would not be overly concerned about it if I were you. Certainly monitor the situation. Keep an eye on it, but do not concern yourself unduly. Exhaust smoke is all part of the joy of owning a diesel. Sometimes you get some, sometimes you don't.

No worries ants_oz, thanks for your input. I refuel the tanks every week, I was wondering if I may of got some bad fuel aswell.

Cheers

yea worked for me about 7000-8000k ago and only blows slight black smoke when i gun it to 3500-4000revs

mate did it to his rodeo only about 2000k ago...still blows black but he said def not as often...

obvisouly u dont do this al the time...as u dont want to pay to get injectors profesionally cleaned and repalce the transmission lol

Hi again Chucka,

With only 80,000km on the dial I wouldn't be overly concerned about injectors - as long as fuel quality has been reasonable and fuel filters have been replaced with reasonable regularity, they should be fine.

Honestly, throw a double dose of Chemtech through it and she'll be apples :)

I got a HORRIBLE dose of winter mix diesel (the stuff that is LOADED with parrafin) and mine ran lik a pig and laid a black mohair carpet behind it. The chemtech certainly helped.
