You haven't mentioned what type of iPod you have but if you know the model try resetting the iPod first. Depending on the model type there are different methods. Do a google search for iPod reset and try that first before mucking around with iTunes

Maybe also do an ECU reset after blocking off the EGR. I found that also pretty much eliminated all the smoke unless I'm really on it... (3000+ rpms uphill with a boat on the back)

Maybe check that the blanking plate has sealed cleanly against the EGR tube and the exhaust manifold. A high pitch whistle could be caused from a small amount of pressurised air escaping through the blanking plate

was just cleaning up my desk when i saw this post and have the old EGR plate in front of me. The hole diameter is 10mm for the bolts and I just blanked off the exhaust side.
