5th gear whine

Hi all.
I have a 2011 d22 2.5 tdi.
I have 37,000kms on it now and have started to notice a slight whine in 5th gear, the noise is not apparent in other gear, just slightly in 5th gear at around 80kmph.

I cant find a lot online about this... Am I being over concerned?

The car has never towed anything, it may just be normal drive line noise.

Any feedback would be great

This is why i watch Top Gear. I can't handle the whining from the blonde chick in Fifth Gear.

If it was used for loads or towing I would say there's a fair chance of it being the chatter in the gearbox. 5th gear is weak and shouldn't really be towed with (especially not uphill). I think the drive in 1st and 4th gear is straight through the gear box (1:1) ratio and therefore strongest but someone else may be able to explain this better. If you remove the gear lever surround you should be able to tell if the sound is coming from the gearbox or not. If you hear the sound in 5th, not fourth and quieter in 3rd and 2nd but not 1st gear then I would definitely say leyshaft bearing.
However.........yours has not towed and has few kms so it would be unusual but not impossible!

I got the same but 04 zd30 i still think it's the belt that needs to be changed but i may be convinced otherwise
