You know, Brad, 95% of the world's population that uses Windows fall into the exact same category. They buy a computer (I've actually heard them ask a sales person if they could "buy a microsoft" meaning the whole computer) take it home and they have SFA idea how to use it. Note that the remaining 5% are smart enough to know that it's crap, but use it because they need the platform to support the 95%.
Bill Gates should be happy. The legion of idiots following HIM is far, far greater than the legion of idiots following Anonymous.
That balance means that included in the pool of idiots is a greater number of people with wealth, who need to have their computers fixed by someone in the remaining 5%.
I guess that's a word of warning: if you want to enter (and remain in) the IT industry, you MUST be equipped to handle stupid, because like hydrogen, it's everywhere.

There is thousands of hackers in this world, some do very little and survive happily, some take corporate jobs with the companies they tried to bring down, then there is a bunch of wankers who claim they are fighting the good fight but provide little real proof about their so called legion and it's abilities. You Tube made these idiots (just like so many other idiots) popular it hasn't proven them to be any sort of real force.
15yr old script kiddies have brought down governments before yet this entire legion has done little more than boast about what it wants too do and try to use scare tactics to convince the US government it's serious. Maybe they could try and read a wiki site about hacking to get some advice on their next step.

It only takes one script sent by an innocuous email to infect a large number of unprotected computers (remember those 95%). Those computers can then be commanded to perform numerous tasks, the most common of which is SMTP services, but they're also quite capable of performing DDoS attacks.
Imagine if just half of those computers (say 17,000) are switched on and half of those are on ADSL2 (say 8,000) and half of THOSE are within 1km of the exchange (so 4,000 of them can upload at about 5Mb/sec). That's 4000x5 = 20000Mb per second - 20 GIGABYTES per second. Smack any individual organisation with that and they're instantly off the air.
It doesn't take a legion. It takes one smart person and a bunch of people who don't know anything about what's going on.

Cost of DVD's and CD's has nothing to do with the artists, the labels, distribution companies and stores control how much we pay for the physical item. Artists are paid a set fee (plus negotiated extras) based on what the record label thinks they can make off the band.
Artists pay a lot of money to managers, labels, promoters and god knows who else just to that their music can be heard, sure there are many lining up to take a piece of the pie when that money comes back but the artist isn't getting $5 from every cd sold.
