Anyone re built their own turbo

Hi just wondering if anyone here has rebuilt their zd30 turbo. Rotors and shaft are all good just a little excess play in by bearings thrust bearing. Just wonder how easy it is.

I considered it, decided I'd probably fail and just swapped it for a forefront unit

Another thing does anyone know if the D22 bonnets with a scoop ( the ones that come on the 2.5 engines) allow more clearance to mount a top Mount intercooler
