Built date or compliance date?

When a new vehicle is registered is it registered from the built date or compliance date, mine is from the built date 12/2010 but the first shipment did not land in au until 2011 and compliance date is 03/2011, you cannot insure a 2010 STX 550 V6 diesel navara because they don't exists, hard to explain to the insurance mob to get agreed value $72500. I did queried the dept of transport they said built date

Compliance date. Your registration should indicate 2011 model.

Can be important when it comes time to sell or trade for the additional $$.
