D22 verses D40 performance

For all you 4x4 owners who have owned a few diesels in your time.

I own a 2006 D22 3L TD and having never owned a diesel before thought being slow off the mark, not fast to accelerate was how diesels performed.

That was until I drove a 2008 D40 2.5L TD, I was amazed how well it performed compared to my unit. Good acceleration, smooth and towed a 2.4 ton boat without much trouble etc etc.
My question is: is the 2008 D40 2.5L TD that much of a better car or is my car in need of a tune ???. Mine has a 3” exhaust with the EGR mod, the 2.5L has a 2 ¾” exhaust but that’s it everything else is standard.

d40 obviously more power and grunt..and even though the recent d22 also have the yd25 motor its been tuned less...

28 extra KW of power, and 100 Nm more torque. With those figures I expect it to be quicker off the mark and better at towing, but the difference is more than noticeable it's exceptional.

It's a case of R&D. The higher priced D40 gets the later design heads - even within models of the D40 you'll see differences. The 2011 Spanish STX has a slightly different head design and different valve layout producing 140kW instead of the Thai-built ST with 126kW.

I guess it'll filter down sooner or later. Nissan have to make their money on the newer designs first, and probably have to pay a $hitload to Renault for the engine design too.

If you think the 2008 D40 is good, hop in a 2012 STX. Not even a 12 year old boy can pull that hard.

i cant bring myself to test driving the 550 cause i will do something stupid like mortgage my house and live in the 550..actually that doesn't sound to bad...
