What is going on?
I was dragging a heavy tree up a greasy paddock. I was in 4L reverse.
When I lost traction, my 2007 D40 would go into limp mode (no revs). At the same time the orange 4wd light in top left of dash would come on, and I would have no gears,( as if the transfer was in neutral, regardless of what I did to the clutch, gear stick, or 4wd switch).
I switched the ignition off and restarted, everything was back to normal.
This happened twice with a chain, and again using a snatch strap.
Is it normal, or is something broken.
No faults codes have come up on my obd reader.

Hi Bruce, it's best to avoid a reverse recovery or in your case a heavy pull unless you have no choice, it puts a heap more strain on the driveline than a forward pull. With your issue's I am thinking an electrical problem, earths, selector solenoid, and perhaps the ABS actuator ????.
