Hi All
I'm sharing a neat little mod I did to my brake light that lives in the sports bar so it comes on at a much lower light level when the tail lights on too.
Brake / Tail Mod
What you'll need:
Solder iron
Solder
2 x 6 amp diodes
1 x 4,700ohm / 5 watt resistor <----- NOT the 820 Ohm as in the picture. Reason. In pitch black dark it could be mistaken as being a stop light. Even though it's a lot lower intensity.
Heat shrink or electrical tape
THANKS TO "KraftyPg" for his assistance at this point!
Ok. Back to work.
Remove the LHS Tail light. 2 x 10mm black bolts
Unclip electrical connector to tail light assy.
At this point you'll notice an adaptor harness which plugs into the body wire loom and to the tail light. This adaptor feeds the 12 volts to the sports bar L.E.D. A blue and Black wire.
Cut the blue wire going to the bar lamp led. Leave enough wire to work with.
Get the two diodes and solder the two ends with the ring (cathode) side together.
Solder this combined diode end to the BLUE wire going to the brake LED lamp.
I will upload pics which show what's happening too!
Next. Join the other blue wire (from the adaptor harness) that you cut to one of the doides. This restores the brake lamp circuit. Test the brake lamp LED works at this point. Isolate any bare wires from contact with the body.
Next. Tail light mod.
Get the 820ohm resistor and solder it to the other diode wire. Look at the adaptor plug and use the black wire next to it. On the corner. My picture shows where it's comming from and melt the plastic cover off the wire. You only need @10mm's bare.
Solder the other end of the resistor to the bare black wire.
Now that's it. Cover / Tape ALL exposed wires.
The doides prevent either voltage Brake / Tail from back feeding into the loom. Otherwise you'd always have both lamps on.
Now for pic uploading. Fingers clossed !!
