Hey everyone, been on this site looking for a bout a week at info on the navaras and today have gone out and bought a 1998 DX duel cab 4x4 with the QD32 motor. Was just wondering if anyone had any problems with this model or anything i should do once i pick it up. Have had a 4x4 before but this will be my first decent one. Previous was a 1983 2.0L Petrol ... Hilux.

Anyway here are some picks from the dealers site. let us know what you think.

Throw on a new tailgate for the show and shine or some muddies and hit the tracks.

Welcome.

Yeh that dent in the tail gate is a downer but hey it got me the truck for cheaper. First thing first is to get it looking nice. the dealer is doing to do a detail on it over the weekend and then i will take some better picks once i get it. have a few things to make the interior look nicer such as seat covers ect.

After i save up more cash a set of muddies will be going on. Going to paint the rims black also. i have heard that the OEM rear shocks should be replaced with something a bit better.

yeh it was one of the best that i looked at. no carpet which is a plus for me haha. very neat and looks like it has been quite well looked after. has 220k on the clock.

i reckon one of those paintless dent guys would knock that out in an hour for $100 or so

I have a friend who just started doing that so i was going to ask him how much it would be. probably a carton to share haha. see what happens. was looking at those ezdown things and was thinking of attaching a gas strut to it see how it goes

Good buy, you could always put a STR tailgat on it to modernise it aswell.

Dave.

Thats not a bad idea Dave, i was thinking the outside is looking a bit plain compared to the series 2.

Firgured i might stick a few photos of the old rig up just to show what i have to compare the Navara against. Had larger tires on it but these are photos from selling.

The Navara should be a lot nicer to head bush in haha

EDIT: and yeh visual swearing haha

Did that thing have a 18R in it ?

I sold this young bloke a full 18R EFI kit for a Hilux similar age to this one.

You'll find the old Hilux was more capable offroad than your new purchase even with a 18R engine. But the Nav should be more reliable and more comfortable.

Hey sorry for the late post forgot about this thread. Yeh had an 18r but was a Carby one, Bought from a mate of mine who got it from god knows where. didnt have a black bonnet when he got it. Yeh i thought it would be more capable off road but at least in the Nav i wont have my arm ripped off every time the wheel slips into a rut haha. and for a daily doing weekend trecks i think the Nav is a much more suitable option. just a matter of getting it to have the proper mud gear.

Alright have been away for a while traveling over seas. Now that i am back it is time to start work on this truck before i head off again. Next week i will be getting the drag link, tie-rods and idler arm replace as they all have wear creating a bit of play in my steering. After that i plan to stick a Turbo on to give it a bit more grunt before lifting it two inchs and sticking a decent set of tires on.

Put the truck in to get serviced on thursday and to get the tie rod ends replaced and have found a few more issues that have popped up since last time. so after some quotes and such the repairs needed look to be around the 1k mark including labour. looks like new tires are a bit away lol. The center bearing has just been replaced and the outer cv boots and right hand side outer tie rod end will be done on monday. The left hand side was done today along with the center bearing and a service.
