Hey Guys,

I've just bought myself a D22 DX dual cab ZD30 with 85000k's on the clock. I have previously owned an 05 STR ZD30, but ended up trading it in on a Hold on Bombadore cause the missus wanted a family car:rant: Anyway I've had the DX now for a couple of weeks and thought it was a bit under powered compared to the old STR. Then it started idling rough. So I changed the fuel filter.
Still no good. Last week for some reason I took the oil filler cap off while it was idling and noticed there was ALOT of blow-by. GREAT, no warranty on used commercials now is there.
So I took it into the local Diesel and Turbo specialist and they did a hot then cold compression test thinking there was either a cracked piston ring or piston. All came back within Nissan spec (between 350 and 410).
So have any of you fellow ZD30 owners have a "Heavy Breather"? Is it a common thing? It's not blowing any smoke or using oil, but it's fairly oily in the turbo intake. To remedy this I'm going to fit a catch can between the crank case breather and the fitting before the turbo.
It is also going back to the specialist to have a DP Chip and 3" exhaust fitted, as I was conned:devil: into it.
So let me know if there are any others out there with similar issues.

Cheers guys

they all breath heavy due to the oil filler cap being almost directly above the timing chain aera, which is a direct channel to the sump.

being underpowered could be several things. a catchcan is highly recommended.

Thanks Tweak'e, that puts my mind at rest a bit bout the blow-by. I'm not sure bout the miss though, but it's intermittent and didn't do it when it was at the workshop (x2) but was doing it 5 minutes before. Could be a bad connection somewhere. See how it goes with the DP Chip and exhaust and have a scout around under the hood at connections.
Cheers mate

Hey Dave,

No mate, it's only at idle, and it only does it sometimes. Both times I've taken it to the Diesel shop it hasn't done it, but both times it was doing it at my mates place five minutes away. I also thought it was to do with the blow-by and tried removing the crank case breather when it was idling rough, and it seemed to run smooth again. So I'm going to experiment a bit when I fit the catch can to try and narrow down the possibitlities. There are so many possible prob's, it's going to take a bit of fault finding I think.
When it was at the shop it had the ECU codes checked and they were all clear, so it doesn't seem to be a sensor issue.
I'm going to do the EGR mod aswell as this might be a possible too.
If you have any other thoughts please let me know. It would be much appreciated.
P.S. Nice specs on your rig. Sounds good mate.
