No , just change over head and new double row chain set up . Car back on the road all up $7270.
$2770 labour and other minor parts. Expensive lesson, maybe need to replace the chains at 100000ksI have broken what I guess is the primary chain, bent a few valves in the process, so far $5000 in parts dreading the labour cost.
No sweat. I am facing a $14500 total rebuild if first mechanic is right. I have a Navara with V6 diesel engine that wouldn't start. I got it going & drove 400m up the road before it stopped again. Towed to mechanic who says the compression is down & I need a new engine. After 3 = weeks I've tracked down a diesel specialist who can't look at it for at least a week but a second opinion is truly worth it. No indicators that the engine is bung except for no start & what appears to be a fuel supply problem at this stage.Change over head, double row chain conversion, new front cover with oil pump, plus oil and filter etc around $7500 that includes labour. You can't get a change over engine under $8000.
If I had found on fitted and ready to drive away $7k I would have had it.$7K is way over the top. That's a fresh motor there!!
Always good to get a second opinion, beware the word total rebuild, it usually means long motor, then you get hit with the extras, oil, filters, fitting, waterpump , radiator hoses, belts, the list goes on. I hope for your sake it's just some malfunction to do with the computor and a cheap fix.No sweat. I am facing a $14500 total rebuild if first mechanic is right. I'm hoping too. I usually do all my own mechanical work as I have for the last 40+ years but I'm time short these days & having an ARB B Bar in front sure makes it difficult to get around the engine. No noises so I doubt if the chain or sprockets are damaged or failing. If I had found on fitted and ready to drive away $7k I would have had it.

If the chain was broken ,you wouldn't have compression. But you would have bent valves as well.I'm hoping too. Exactly & there would be nasty noises when turning over.If the chain was broken ,you wouldn't have compression. But you would have bent valves as well.
No , a bang at the start, that was it.Exactly & there would be nasty noises when turning over.
Not a sound at all. It started after some help with startyabastard & ran for 400m then stopped as if no fuel.No , a bang at the start, that was it.
