iPhone connection

With the USB port that comes with the car, my iPhone won't connect. It tries and tries but dosn't. It just keeps beeping when it goes to charge.
Is this common or is it a fault with my USB port?

no dramas with our iPhone 4/4S/5
tried a different cable?

Yeah mate. Tries a Apple cable. Everything works sweet now
