Hey guys,

http://youtu.be/fbQ4sh3BzM8

Just wondering if any one could have a look at my vid and then tell me what the loud banging is in the front end? It only happens when I go of road, 14sec in is the loudest one.

Would be good to know what it is before I go for a service cause I don't really want to show this to the dealer lol.

Cheers
Mick

I can't tell whether it's a broken spider gear or a slapping transfer chain. Only seemed to happen when you were applying throttle. Have you been getting a lot of wheelspin in 4WD and having your front wheels contact firm ground?

have car in 2wd - jack up front end. Spin each wheel while looking at the gearbox drive shaft and listen for noise.
if no noise - then its most likely your gearbox.
if you get noise by the driveshaft is not spining, its your spider gears.
if you get noise and your driftshaft is spinning, then its your crown/pinion gears.
you could have also destroyed a CV, watch them to and observe.

more likely you might have smashed up the pinion/crown gear - i have done this in my navara before. by using to much right foot when there is a front wheel in the air, when it drops and makes contact, there is driveline shock through the front diff and it does no good...thats how ive killed 2 front diffs before...

ive put a LOKKA in my new navara to hopefully aviod that situation

So I got it to make this noise again and it only does it in low range and mostly when I do a jerky take off.

so got the nav on jacks at the moment and have done 2 quick vids. first on is in 2wd and spinning the front wheels, there is a small clunk but that might be normal I'm not sure.

The second vid it in 4 low and its a lot louder and put only really does it when I jerk the wheel.

also cv seem ok, one had a small amount of movement but nothing that didn't seam right but again I'm no mechanic lol

cheers
