Tailgate swap - late model to early model?

hey all,

just wondering if anyone has done this, or if indeed it is even possible.

i want to swap out my rounded tailgate with the flat later-model variant.
No particular reason - i just think they look nicer.

i know the actual tub is a different length on the later models, but all i want is the gate.

personally I like the older tailgate but they should be the same width
I wonder if the hardware is the same?

I say give it a try, you could always re dell the tailgate if it doesn't fit.
Heaps of people chase tailgates cause they are always backing into things.

yeah, i think ill head up to bero spares - pretty sure they have a late model one in there at the moment. see if they will let me measure it all up.

I can't help you with an answer but am keen to know what you find out. I also prefer the look of the newer ones!

well, to get things started, here are the measurements of my tailgate.

i wonder if one of you guys with a late model "smooth" tailgate could run a tape measure over yours?

Did anyone actually work out if the two tailgates are interchangable? I need myself a new one and have only been able to find a late model one in the same colour.

Are the different D22 tailgates interchangeable? I have a 2008, would like to swap for the later flatter tailgate if anyone is interested. Mine is silver, 2.5.
