Hi, can anyone explain to me the advance of where the thermostat is located on the zd30??
With most motors having them near the top of the radiator where it can be easily accessed, why is the zd30 one on the block intake, tucked away behind things??
TIA

my understanding of it is that motor inlet thermostat provides a much more stable inlet water temp. this is done to keep to stop cyclic heating/cooling. ie inlet temp going down every time thermostat opens. the different metals in the engine, iron/alloy, expand/contract at different rates and constant changes in temp makes upsets the joins between them. ie iron liner in alloy block or the most basic is head gasket.

its common enough in a lot of other engines. tho i've only seen it in alloy engines.
