Hi All, looking for a bit of guidence and knowledge. A few months ago my partner bought a Nissan Navara at auction. She got it quite cheaply as it was a stolen and recovered vehicle. The cars key barrel was missing/ripped out, so there was no way of knowing the kilometers as there was no key to turn the ignition to see the kms
electronically on the dash. I told her it was a bad idea , but she bought it anyway.
It was an 08 Navara D40 ST-X 4.0L V6. We got it back to our house and i ordered
a complete ignition kit from a mob in Victoria , Key barrel , ECU. BCM , TCM, i think these are the terms. Anyway it turned over however did not start as whoever stole it or tried to steal it , filled it up with Diesel. After i drained the tank , it turned over, ran a little rough for a while untill all diesel was cleared and than ran smoothly. I took it for a drive and the Auto transmission was really rough, gear ratios seemed out and shifting hard. It was also slipping in 3rd and would not change into 4th just reved its guts out. I took it to a transmission specialist and he told me the transmission was cooked. So i called my friends up in victoria again and i purchased a second hand gearbox. It was installed by an apprentice mechanic, not sure what year he was but he seemed to know what he was doing and had all the gear. after it was installed, we took it for a test drive and the same issues appeared again. I once again took it to another transmission shop , and he ran a diagnostic on it and told me there were several fault codes and it seemed to him that we were shipped the wrong gearbox. So i jumped on the phone to my friends in Victoria again and explained the situation. I was told by him that he definetly sent me the correct transmission , but shipped a replacement anyway. The 3rd transmission was installed a few days later and we got it all back together and when we drove it, the same problems that we had with the previous 2 transmissions appeared again. This time, i took it to a Nissan dealer as i was fed up with not knowing what the issue was. The last transmission shop actually said that the best bet would be to take it to nissan and ask for a reflash or something to recode the computer and modules. It spent a day in the nissan shop and the called me today to advise that the diagnostic they ran on the transmission was given numerous fault codes including , incorrect gear ratios , speed sensor failure, internal transmission failure. Theyre best advise was to replace the transmission again, which i have already done twice. He also mentioned the TCU needs to be of the same transmission or something. Anyway, the cars back my yard and we are at our witts end to figure out what is wrong and why it wont change into 4th and 5th gear without slipping out and redlineing. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks all.
