Tuning chips downsides ?

Looking into diesel chips , mostly read positive reviews ,but have read a few relating to damage ? Torque converter seems to come up but is this related to autos? Mine is manual Anyone have any cautious tales to tell .

great power Iv got a chipit chip on tune 5 any more and the clutch begins to smell, but the car do,s have 130,000ks on the clock now still on the original clutch.
