And then I loose my hair dressing income the penalties of owning a D22 just don't seem worth it.

yep i just removed the center consol, by popping off the gear stick knob, a few screws from the compartment arounf the hand brake and removed the lot, drilled the holes bolted the bracket down and fitted all back together.

Obviously my mistake was reading the manual. According to the manual removing that center console you have to take a lot more out than just the console to make it work. Still if I was mounting the CB and not the screen then I might have tried something different but the mounting brackets for my screen wouldn't fit in there no matter which way I put it so manufacturing something that fitted where I was already working seemed easier.
