Is this looking a little tired?

G'Day all.

I have a couple of photos for you to look at. I was changing the oil today and having a general poke around the undercarriage. I have owned my 2005 D22 ST-R 3.0Di for a little over a year now, so I don't know how things are 'sposed to look from new and I though some you you guys will be able to help.

First pic is the ute itself, for viewing pleasure purposes only. Its fairly stock, so nothing real special apart from it being my pride and joy....blah, blah, blah.

Next is two pics from inside the front wheel on the passenger side.

What I am mainly concerned with here (apart from the shamefull state of filth), is the travel between the rubber stops. You can (hopefully) see bugger-all upward travel on the lowers stop and heaps on the upper arm/stop. I am thinking this is not natural, true? I suspect all parts here are still original.

Am I due to pay some attention to this in the form of visiting a suspension specialist?? I am not really overly interested in a lift for the sake of a lift, would it be worthwhile simply updating torsions, shocks etc with standard spec aftermarket parts? - or would I be better off looking in the area of a full kit (with a lift) and go the whole hog - would there be much difference money wise either way.

Sorry for all the questions and the ramble, but what have you got better to do :). Thanks in advance guys/gals, any help would be much appreciated. Also, any recommendations for a suspension specialist in either Toowoomba or Brisbane, or even the Warwick areas? Thanks Again.

Aaron

Hello Aaron,

That is not overly unusual, however the front ride height may have dropped slightly. The torsion bars are adjustable to raise or lower the front. I levelled mine up a bit, had it aligned and it rides better than from the factory due to the fact that it does not pound the bump stops as much. The adjustment is at the back of the bars, a threaded 22 or 24mm bolt with a locknut from memory.

The Nissan adjust procedure is in these forums somewhere.

Regards
Greg

Looks like the torsions have sagged a far bit. As ST-R said there are adjusters connected to the rear of the torsion bars. If your not after a lift just a better ride, then a slight adjustment wouldn't go a-stray. Maybe some new shocks as well.

This is what mine looked like after a 40mm lift

As the others said, your front end has sagged.

Time to upgrade to a D40, the D22 has the suspension travel of a skateboard.

Cheers fellas, I appreciate your help. Glad its only a matter of adjustment and some fresh shocks. I will look up that adjustment procedure and have a go. Thanks.

If you need a wheel allignment get the tyre fitters to do it as you have to take the weight off the front end.

Shouldn't cost much extra, replace those shocks. They would be stuffed by now.

Dave.

Gotcha - just gotta find a guy who gives a dam about his work - the last alignment I had done was crapola, won't be going back to him..... ever.

If you are on the Gold Coast or willing to travel there, Action Tyres and More at Price st Southport are good. The guy that does the wheel alignment is excellent, he did mine and one of the staff members has a D22.

They race cars and understand geometry, rather than the usual tyre shop "toe and Go"

Hello Aaron,

Yep as mentioned 2 posts above, speak to Zordo, (for susp) My 2004 ST-R still has the original Nissan flogged out suspension, and my front end looks remarkably like yours.

When I have the spare $1300.00, I will be making an appointment with John (Zordo) to get lift/suspension upgrade. Mine rides like a bag of shite at the moment, its well overdue for some love. :sarcastic:

Thanks for all the advice gents - I will be going down to Brisvegas next month and will tee up a visit to Zordo, might find some other goodies there as well.
Appreciate your help.
