I had problems with mine at about 150000km but I'm sure that they can go at any time depending on a lot of factors. Can't remember what it cost me to replace them!

I am still confused as to whether my 06 ZD30 alternator has a clutch mechanism or not and whether it must be replaced with an alternator with a clutch mechanism or not. Is there an easy way to tell whether my alternator has a clutch pulley? I'm sure someone knows more about it than me!

Thanks for the feedback Steve. I definitely agree about the warranty which is why I wanted to hear about people's real world experiences! My Nav is also an 2006 D22 so maybe I was wrong and I need the alternator without the clutch. Can anyone else shed some light on the topic?

Hi everyone, I'm after a bit of advice before I buy a new alternator for my D22. The stock 60Amp Hitachi unit (LR160-745B) is working fine but I'd like some more output before we do our trip to the cape later this year. I believe the Hitachi alternator has some sort of clutch pulley mechanism...
