Haven't heard of any pinion issues although you might find you'll chew out centre bearings more often with the prop shaft being on a steeper angle.

Never had a problem. Keep up the grease to the pivots and use moly based grease on the bushings as it doesn't effect (corrosive?) the polyurethane.

Take your old one to a tail shaft specialist. You can get new uni joints and bearings plus balancing for less than half that cost.
