My step dad is in to that stuff, he has a spare room at his place set up as a radio room. He has his own repeater and all sorts of stuff. A few years ago when Andy Thomas was on the international space station my step dad got to talk to him for a short time.
He has a bit of it run on computers and stuff.

I don't really talk to him anymore but this is his web page http://www.qrz.com/db/vk3ubo

I'm VK3DMN, many moons ago I was VK3PAU.

I'm not as active as I used to be but I've got a Yaesu FT-857D for portable use (mainly when I'm camping) and an Icom IC-718 and trap vertical at home which doesn't get used much.

Its been around since radio was invented , and obviously by amateurs , and since then besides being a hobby , has provided world wide communications in emergencies / disasters , and covert use in the wars , and way supersedes a phone of any description , through the years amateurs have always been the neighborhood geeks to witch everyone flocked to have all and sundry fixed , even now in a disaster event its mainly amateurs that provide communications , it was an amateur whom got the first message to the world when cyclone tracy hit xmas eve
Here's a link to my QRZ page 180 degrees http://www.qrz.com/db/VK3YW

VK4NFL here, I don`t really get much of a chance to get on air anymore, although others seem to keep my call active :) I think the last time I was on air was a few years ago when I went to the USA on holidays, I remember lying on a hotel bed in Las Vegas using a cheap dual band h/h and using the IRLP to talk back to mates in VK4. I still have a portable HF setup that I use to use camping, but having been camping in a few years. I though about installing HF in my boat and operate maritime mobile, but kicking back drinking beer is more fun
