I had no indication of any trouble before Nissan called, no squealing, shudder or brake fade. I just took their word for it and got them to replace all the parts they recommended. Not much point in doing anything about it now as all parts are brand new, but perhaps next time I get the call I should probably take it down to a brake specialist and get a better quality product fitted.

Even better change them yourself next time.........piece of piss, basically take your wheel off undo the 2 caliper bolts cable tie the caliper out of the way remove the rotor whack the new one on get a g clamp and push the brake cylinders back in( keep an eye on your brake fluid resivoir it may overflow if it has been topped up, you dont want the shit leaking all over your engine bay), insert new pads... bolt back up... far cheaper then paying some goon an hrs work that can be done easily in half and hr at your own hourly rate!!! usually a cpl beers:sarcastic:

My D40 has 90k on the clock and are still original rotors and they are still in good condition and it is an auto so no gears too slow me down only brakes and I don't drive slow. I am upgrading my brakes now, but that because of other mods I've done that I need more stopping power.

Just had my service 2010 D40 auto - just clocked 50,000km. Have been told rotors under size and pads had it - $850 to replace! (after a $1180 service bill!!) I was shocked they needed replacing at this milage, do bugger all towing. Have mate who runs mobile brake repair and will do for $500. No more servicing at Nissan!

Just had my 2009 D40 Auto serviced. Told rotors wouldnt make next service. Nissan dealer used aftermarket parts when I asked about low dust pads.
Have only done 28,000km. They blamed European Brakes. I do alot of stop start in traffic going to work, still this in my opinion is piss poor.

Our 2009 D40 just (yesterday) had its 90,000km service done. I had them report on the brakes - still has HEAPS of rotor left. They're aftermarket jobs - so are the pads, fitted at the 40,000km service.

I was hoping they'd tell me it was time to change them over, because I've got DBA slotted rotors to fit to the car!

I think I might fit the slotted rotors and new pads now anyway, although my brake usage is now going to diminish - I've fitted a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake controller to replace the Voyager and let me tell you it's like chalk and cheese - now the van does do its proper share of braking.

Just had a brake problem (which ended up being the rear oil seal) but when checking the fronts found the rotors to be undersize (28mm standard, 26mm minimum) mine are 25.7.

D40 has done 140,000 k's replaced the pads once already at 80,000.

Talking to a Nissan service advisor who said he has seen rotors replaced at less than 30,000. I would nearly be on my 5th set and $2,500 out of pocket!!!!!!!!!!

We had our stock rotors replaced at 40,000km and have done 100,000km on the aftermarket set which are now worn about 50%. I have a spare set (DBA slotted) which I'll fit in next but I should get some new Bendix pads before I throw those on.
