Checking Engine Oil Level - D40 Diesel 2008 - is there a trick?

Is there a trick to reading the oil level on the dipstick?

Every time I pull the stick, I cannot get an accurate reading because the oil is way past the maximum level.

The car has just been in for a service and they are adamant the oil level is right.

(Yes - car is on flat surface and yes I did let the car sit for a good 10 to 15 minutes)

Never been a trick in my 09. Yeah sometimes it takes time to run down but it's never taken long and I've always got an accurate reading. (As accurate as i can estimate anyway)

Do you trust that the mechanic has done what he says and not stuffed up?

Sounds like there have over filled it. Just don't want to admit it.
