My parents are looking at buying a new d40 with the 2.5 motor in it. I had heard of issues in the original 2.5 motors am was wondering if the new ones are sorted out or not. Also what the auto transmission is like. If someone can tell me what they have encountered or heard that would be great?

The 2.5 is a good motor there have been some timing chain faults but if you notice the excess rattling before it lets go im sure nissan will cover it under waranty or good will.
The newer 2.5 has a little more power so I imagine it would be alot smoother and you can only hope they have fixed the chain tensioner problem.
No idea about the auto I have a manual.

The auto in the 450 is great, the auto on the earlier ones is ok but not as good as the 450.
And other than that they are great utes.

Our 2009 2.5L D40 has done over 100,000km and the engine purrs like a kitten. Very happy with it. The auto box is very smooth - if you drive it moderately, you can hardly tell the gears are changing.
