As the title says , first thing in the morning I start and I have no boost and shitloads of black smoke , won't pull past 3 rd gear , then after about 5 mins of this rubbish comes good , no engine codes , no lights , or limp mode , fresh , fuel filter and air cleaner too , anyone any ideas ?

Does the turbo actuator move back and forth at idle? Or is it stationary?
Check any ecu plug on the motorthat has been removed ever

Am sure Tony will be along soon, but I do recall something about vacuum lines???? Worth removing one at a time and checking.

What ecu plug ? and I haven't looked at that yet , its a bit hard as iam by my self

Thought about lines , but iam sure it would do it all the time , not just cold

Any plug on the motor that could get wet or dirty...maf sensor just after the air filter is worth checking too.all easy one person tasks...quick to check also.

Maf sensor needs to look clean..particularly in the square hole...there is a little resistor looking wire...it should be very clean.

I would check the actuator first thing in the morning. Before starting, pop the bonnet and stand there watching the little arm underneath while someone else cranks the thing over and gets it going. The arm SHOULD move. If it doesn't, you've found the problem, now to find the cause.

The vacuum pump (right side of the motor near the oil filter, follow the thin hose eh!) might be shot - would be the first one I've heard of - it might have some gunk in it and only frees up enough to function properly when it's warm. Same could be said of the actuator or the vanes in the turbo (heard of that one, come to think of it). Look at that arm really, really carefully - is it TRYING to move, but not managing much? Could well be sticking vanes. Warm it up, things come loose and work as expected.

I'd start there. There is some programming relating to startup to ensure that it fires (slightly richer mixture, which relies on MAFS, BOOST and fuel rail sensors). I really don't suspect any of these - the MAFS operates at intake air temps not engine temps (although intake air temp is affected by engine bay heat, I still doubt this). Boost sensor is unlikely to be the culprit because it too sits in a virtually fixed-temp environment. Fuel rail is something else - definitely affected not only by the engine temp, but the temperature of the incoming fuel too. I wouldn't be shooting at this one first, though - it's an expensive little fcuker to replace.

When you're checking the hoses, have a look at how easily the cold hoses rotate on the barbs. If you can rotate them, the hose has hardened internally and will be leaking. A new set won't set you back much anyway and will give you not only peace of mind but also one less thing to stare at in the engine bay wondering which bloody bit's busted!

What causes the vanes to stick ? this has done 65,000 ks now , hoses all appear good , and its going to be hard to get someone else to start it , iam at a hotel in Portland lol

Not sure WHY they stick. I assumed some deterioration of the metal more than anything else, although it could suffer from the effects of large amounts of soot (DPF equipped or not, because the turbo comes before the DPF). I suppose it could also be a dodgy actuator arm that frees up when things warm up too. Be worth trying to get the arm to move without the engine running and see how free it is.

If you can't get someone to start it for you, after you've done the twist checks on the hoses and tried moving the actuator shaft, just start it and head around and take a look. It should still be moving 2-3mm in and out all the time while the engine idles.

Ok if it a soot problem could it be caused by blocking off the egr , if this is the issue iam going to be screwed for warranty

Well typically , it's booked in to be looked at , but Supprise supprise , it hasn't done it in 3 days
