Problem with 3.0td 2003 navara

I changed the oil and filter and found alloy particles in the oil filter,engine has done 110000k ,i had oil pressure,compression tests done,turbo checked,castrol oil sample done,all came back ok,has anyone seen this before.biggazza

have you checked with a magnet to make sure that the particles are actually alloy? any other filings, particles in the sump oil?

The engine block is cast iron and the pistons and crank are forged steel.

Not sure where the alloy would come from, maybe the head.

definitly alloy not magnetic,does not look like bearing shell,it was in the oil filter ,i cut the oil filter cartridge in half and washed it out in petrol thats how ifound it. Biggazza.

you cut the oil filter cartridge in half before finding it?
we are talking ZD30 motor with eco filter element here ????

pistons are alloy afaik.

pistons could be going but i would have expected lots of smoke before bits of pistons to be found. otherwise i have no idea.
