I don't know if anyone has put at thread up about this, but I have been speaking with some mechanics and performance specialists regarding getting a chip or remapping the ECU.

The guys I have been talking with reckon it will be cheaper and you will be able to get the same results if you get the ECU remapped, as the remapping can be dialed into your engine (as each engine is different) and its spec's alot better than having set spec's.

I was just wondering if anyone had thought about doing this or has had it done?

i had ecu remapped on my ss commodore($800)
tuner sat in passenger seat with laptop and remapped while i drove around
it would be possible with most ecu's
hopefully a tuner out there will someday develop one for our navs

I had the same thing done on my SS ute VY, with great results. Hopefully someone knows if there is something for a d22 zd30 that can be done as opposed to paying for a chip

I can't remember the specifics but there was a guy that joined a while back who used some UK mob to remap ECU's. The information was a tad vague and in some ways sounded quiet experimental but I've seen his name pop up on a heap of different forums. Search for threads or posts by APTUNING

remapping the ecu is possible when you have the right program to acess and alter ecu
(apparantly the tuners still cant unlock ecu's on the new v6 commodores)
remapping with a GOOD TUNE takes heaps of development time
and thats after you can unlock the ecu
thats why chips that piggyback ecu's are popular at the moment
i have a friend who has a ve 6 ltr twin turbo running a full motec ems
he can change tunes at the touch of a button
thats possible in a diesel too
but way too expensive

as krafty said this topic has been visited before.....do a search.....a guy gets your ecu for a few days or something and gets it remapped...tho the general vibe/ better option was to install a chip.
check out the thread via the SEARCH ENGINE

the zd30 ecu is not rewritable. they have to unsolder the chip and fit a writable one in, then flash that. not cheap, need to send ecu away and i know of only one company looking at doing it.
so your pretty much stuck with a chip.

I agree that having your own ECU dialed in to your vehicle will always give the best tune, however, DP Chips etc having multiple settings would always have their advantages too. I guess it comes down to what you want it to do

Spoke to roo systems today to a guy called warran and they have just spent $27000 buying the equipment to be able to do this $1500 I think it came to could be wrong give them a ring and find out more I'm now wondering if I should do this as they will trade in on your old roo chip
Go somewhere else, anywhere else but there, I would never let those idiots at roo systems near my car, do a search of them, you will find most people complain about that owner, he was even telling northside4x4 (another shop who posts here) that he was going to take them to court for slander cause northside posted up a comparo thread about all the chips on the market....

If you want the most power get a chip it, if you want the most reliable get the steinbauer, also make sure you get an EGT gauge to monitor things.

edit: roo don't make chips btw, they are just a tunit which is just a DP chip...
